Add up the loads you want running during an outage — lights, fans, television, refrigerator, router, a few sockets. That total, plus a margin for starting current on motorised appliances, gives the inverter capacity. Backup duration then determines the battery capacity separately.
Lead-acid remains a lower-cost option and is still the right choice for many budgets. Lithium offers longer cycle life, efficient charging, compact size and lower maintenance, at a higher initial cost. We explain the difference against your actual usage rather than pushing one over the other.
A standard home inverter is not the same as a solar inverter. Some setups can be extended with a solar charge controller, and some are better replaced with a hybrid solar inverter. If solar is on your horizon, tell us now — it changes what we recommend today.
